Prophecy &
The Crow

The Krev Chronicles: Book One

A Prince. A Rebellion. An Orphan.

Vallen, the Shadow Prince of the Vesper Court, has spent his life being two people. The Vesper Court sees an obedient prince. Everyone else sees The Crow, and no one has connected the two since the sun his father executed his mother on the scaffold, and Vallen inherited her war before firstlight.

He built the Crimson Crow with Nymeria. Her fire, his shadows, a handshake on the words "two against the court." Then Alaric and Thorne join, a network grows, then a single black feather becomes a calling card, and the people whisper, "thank the stones for the Crimson Crow."

He was not waiting for her. A prophecy had him hunting children who should not exist, and by the time he found one, both courts were already closing. He reached her first.

She is seven, running from Glyphs, and the crowns have already declared her dead. Her eyes are the violet the old tales call the color of doom. Before she gives him her name she stops to work out whether the truth is safe. By then he has already decided he is not leaving without her.

They run together, from one hiding place to the next, until they find a cave hidden in the mountains. He puts a sword in her hands, then a bow, and trains her.

He does not hide her. His people learn her name. He brags about what she can do with a bow, but when Nymeria will not stop asking questions, he has to choose between the two lives he is living.

What he never tells any of them is what Raven actually is. He lets them believe the easiest thing: that the Crow has gone soft over a frightened child.

Raven is learning faster than he planned for; something is waking under the mountain, and the story Vallen tells about her is harder to tell every sun. The people he loves will find out what she is. The only question is whether they hear it from him.

Prophecy & The Crow is a sweeping, emotionally charged epic fantasy that balances the gritty, high-stakes tension of rebellion with profound moments of tenderness and healing. The atmosphere moves from the oppressive, blood-slicked cobblestones of the Cimmerian Palace to the quiet, glowing sanctuary of a hidden crystal cave. At its core, it is a story about the agonizing weight of duty, the necessity of found family, and the desperate hope of breaking cycles of cruelty.

"A tiny, chaos-loving dragon named Declan."

★★★★★ Hoyt, Goodreads

"Holy crap! 9/10 easily!! The character building with Vallen and Raven - incredible. I cannot wait to see how this all plays out."

- Jon, ARC

"With shadow magic and dragon lore reminiscent of Fourth Wing, and a brotherly bond akin to Ciri and Geralt in The Witcher, I would recommend Prophecy & The Crow to anyone who loves emotionally charged fantasy; Nicholls' novel is an enjoyable and unforgettable read. "

"The pacing felt incredibly dynamic and well-managed, with no points where the story dragged. I was constantly emotionally invested, creating a rich and engaging reading experience from start to finish."
