"You must make the choice to take a chance if you want anything in life to change."
— Alaric
The Prince Everyone Admires
The Celestial Court loves its Starlight Prince. The benevolent king's son. The Commander who never wastes a life. The one royal in two realms the people trust on sight.
It's a beautiful story. It leaves out the truth. His father isn't benevolent. The throne stands on a lie. And the prince everyone adores has been quietly deciding which of his king's orders to obey since he was old enough to understand what his father was really asking.
The Season That Made Him
He was fourteen when he buried his mother and his sister. Queen Nova. Keeva, seven turns old. An accident, the court said.
Alaric didn't believe them. He went looking for the truth. He found it. He's never been able to forget it.
His father didn't hold him. He gave him an army. That was the sun Alaric stopped being the King's son and became the King's soldier, a war handed to a boy too young to carry it, by a man who saw a useful blade where a son should have been.
Both realms have a king who turned his heir into a weapon. Malak used cruelty. Alberich used duty. Only the method differs.
The Soldier They'd Die For
The realms see discipline made flesh. Measured. Exact. Unshakable under fire. A born leader who simply leads.
They have no idea what it cost. His army doesn't follow Prince Alaric for his blood. They follow Commander Alaric because he stood the line beside men twice his age until the rank he was handed became one he'd earned. Because he's never been careless with a soldier's life. Because every one of them knows he'd die before he let them fall. The court calls that ambition. The court has never understood a man who wants none of what they're all clawing for.
The Brother Who Won't Fail Twice
When Vallen, his oldest friend, the one person he trusts with everything, asked him to be a big brother to a hunted ten-turn-old with violet eyes, Alaric didn't flinch. Even though both Kings hunt her. He took her in. He trained her. He made her family. The girl Vallen couldn't keep safe became the sister Alaric would burn the world to protect.
Family is the one battlefield where his tactics fail him. He'd give anything to keep Raven from danger. He loses that fight every time, to a sister built to run at it.
He's lost a sister before. He won't do it again.
Emerald Strength
Alaric is bound to Athos, an emerald dragon, largest of the bonded lines, built like the mountains. Athos leads as his rider does. Weight. Patience. Strength that never has to raise its voice. Where younger dragons burn hot, Athos holds steady, the bedrock given will. Two who measure before they move, and once moved, don't stop.
He bears old battle scars that he neither hides nor draws attention to, treating them as simple facts rather than stories to tell. His movements are precise and controlled - someone always ready for action, always aware of his surroundings, always calculating the next strategic move.
Appearance
Tall, silver-haired, green eyes that read a room like terrain, mapping it out of habit even when there's nothing to fear. His bearing makes him imposing without effort, though he carries the trained grace of a court that taught him to stand before anything else. He wears old battle scars he neither hides nor explains. Facts, not stories. Every movement is controlled, economical, ready. The bearing of a man who, somewhere around fourteen, stopped being able to fully stand down.
